We’ll talk about nutrition and how it relates to cooking, how to balance meals, what ingredients to stay away from, and what ingredients are good for the whole family. I’ll also show you how to do professional meal planning to trim and stay within a budget, while eating healthy. We’ll talk about batch cooking, re-purposing leftovers, and food storage. We’ll also begin diet and nutrition discussions, and planning your menu accordingly. Parenting tips for picky eaters will also be discussed if participants have children. You will end the class with a full two-week meal plan and grocery list.

Classes Outside the Home:
Class 5:Shopping and Portions. We’ll hit the local grocery store to comparison shop. Reading labels is a big part of getting the most for your money, and we will spend much of the class learning what different ingredients are, why prices aren’t always what they seem, how nutritional values compare, and how to put together a price book to help you get the best deal in the least time. We will also discuss proper portioning for meats, vegetables, starches, and grains. You will leave class with your own price book, and a guide to selecting the best store produce and meats.
Class 6:To Market! We’ll take some time to visit either markets or farms (seasonal), meet farmers, and learn about their products. We’ll compare different products, discuss how to incorporate fresh produce and local meats into your diet to enhance flavor and nutrition without breaking the bank. You will learn how to select quality produce, and we’ll discuss the confusion that surrounds terms like “free range,” and “pastured,” to help take the mystery out of shopping.
